Project Design Engineer - Tool Development

Overview

Victaulic is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer. Thecandidate will participate in a cross-functional design team and will beresponsible for product conceptualization, modeling, and analytical design. Theduties will include developing, designing, and troubleshooting roll groovingand cut grooving equipment.

Job Functions

While working in a multi-discipline research and developmentteam, lead the mechanical design and planning of tool developmentprojects.   The candidate will beresponsible for the design and development of Victaulic’s next generation ofglobal distributed fabrication tools. During this process the candidate will responsible for managing thetechnical aspects of the project from ideation (project inception) to build andvalidate (launch).  The individual willwork closely with project management and product directors orchestrating thevarious activities associated with ensuring that a product meets the marketneed.   These activates include leadingdesign FMEAs and reviews, coordinating Beta and Alpha testing, and leading teammembers in Victaulic’s development process.

As a mechanical engineer responsible for developingmachinery for fabrication in the piping industry, the individual will berequired to apply their mechanical design skills to designing complex rotatingmachinery that strategically enables the sale and use of Victaulic’s coreproducts.  The candidate will beresponsible for machine frame design, tooling (dies), linear and/or rotatingmechanical movement and the analysis to support the design (use of FEA toolspreferred).  Additionally, the individualwill be responsible for the development of forming dies for various formingmachines and work closely with metallurgical specialists to analyze pipe endformations generated with both the machine and dies. 

Activities:


Generation and interpretation mechanical designspecifications and system requirement specifications


Work as a technical lead


Responsible for entire product lifecycle


2D/3D modeling


FEA and engineering analysis tools


Guide design engineering staff in the generation of machinelayout and 3D drawings


Participate on new product development teams


Schedule and manage work in the engineering lab


Identify and work with external suppliers


Communicate with teams and management to provide projectupdates and design reviews, etc.

Job Requirements

Skills andQualifications


BS/MS in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering orElectrical Engineering degree with 2-5 years on work experience.


Must be proficient with creating 2D and 3D drawings(Preferably Solid Works)


Working knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulicsystems,  and or rotating machinery


Hands on experience working with machinery and laboratoryequipment


Perform mechanical design analyses and calculations


Finite analyses experience a plus.
