Job Description

Position:       Project Engineer- Sustaining Engineering– Materials

Location:      Product Development, EngineeringDepartment

Reports to:  Mike Prince

This positionwill work across Victaulic product lines with a focus on proactively addressingshort term customer needs, driving growth as part of a customer-focused teamthat reacts quickly and balances that highly-variable need with continuousimprovement efforts

Responsibilitiesinclude but are not limited to:

A.        Development is from inception throughsteady state production, which often includes:

1.         Concept generation.

2.         Specific design ideas to satisfyconcept(s).

3.         Presentation and communication of ideas.

4.         Modeling of concept (via drawingsand/or hardware).

5.         Interfacing with ProductManagers/Marketing/Sales to refine concept to meet customer requirements.

6.         Costing of initial design.

B.        Leading of a multi-departmental team(formal or informal) in the execution of detailed design all the way through tothe product being marketed including:

1.         Design to meet requirements andmanufacturability issues.

2.         Detail drawing review and approval.

3.         Vendor selection participation(in-house or out).

4.         Prototyping.

5.         Testing against requirements.

6.         Solving design problems.

7.         Scrutiny and review of detailed costestimates.

8.         Leading a design review to assurecustomer and performance requirements are met.

9.         Resolving tolerance issues.

10.       Development of EI/EP/ES's as appropriate.

11.       Participation in tooling selection.

12.       Approval of tooling based on samples.

13.       Participation in evaluation of pilotproduction runs and problem solving.

14.       Technical literature drafts and approval.

15.       Education/training of Marketing/Sales andEngineering Services staff about new product.

C.        Specific policies and procedures havebeen established by the Engineering Department to provide for the security andaccessibility of electronic data and confidential information. It is theresponsibility of the employee, in the daily course of doing business, tofollow said policies as they relate to document management (see EOG-26). Theextent to which departmental research and development information is storedelectronically has vastly increased, and will continue to do so. The newFederal rules pertaining to electronic discovery stipulate that substantiveemail communications constituted "records" under the Federal RecordsAct. It is therefore the responsibility of each departmental employee tounderstand their role in communicating via e-mails and that all e-mails must bewritten/responded to in a professionalmanner, as outlined in EOG-26. 

D.        Monthlytravel to agencies, vendors, manufacturing sites in support of assignedprojects.

E.        Contributeto future new product ideas, which will benefit Victaulic and positivelydifferentiate Victaulic from our competition (Vision).

Job Requirements


1.         BS / MS in appropriate engineeringfield with 2-6 years of experience.

2.         Commercially successful experience inproduct development involving Product Technology or related products/processes.

3.         Successful project managementexperience inclusive of taking projects from concept through production.

4.         Creative, able to generate conceptswith good potential that meet project requirements. Well-developed businesscommunication skills.
