Job Description

Position:       EngineeringLab Technician

Location:      EngineeringLaboratory

Reports to:   TechnicalLead, Engineering Laboratory



Working in an EngineeringResearch and Development Laboratory with the responsibility of testing and evaluating components and prototypesto maintain initiative and project timelines for new product or processintroductions. This includes ensuring that all standards and requirements aremet during the prototype development stage. Creative input is requiredfrequently, as prototype specifications are often incomplete during earlyproject development.


RESPONSIBILITIESto include but not limited to:

1.           Asper assigned work orders, assemble and test products to comply with engineeringspecifications (hydrostatic, flex, bending moment, air, cycle, low temperature,heat aging, fire suppression, flow loop and any additional required tests).

2.           Inspectionand/or testing of any products or components from Victaulic producingfacilities and vendors both foreign & domestic for defects and compliancewith engineering specification and drawings for the following: mold & toolingapprovals, and sample product approvals during the product development cycle.

3.           Install& setup necessary supporting equipment, components and data loggers fortesting. Operate the test assembly and instrumentation, measuring performanceof products and record data as directed.

4.           Accuratelyreporting and recording of test data as outlined by department processes andengineering requirements.

5.           Inspectand recalibrate pressure, vacuum gage, precision measuring instruments, asnecessary, to standards which are traceable to NIST. Maintain calibration recordsand logs per department process and ISO standards.

6.           Operatelab fabrication equipment, i.e. cut-off saw, drill press, belt sander, grinder,and other machine shop equipment, as necessary, to prepare product andmaterials for product testing. (Clean and maintain, as needed).

7.           Prepare,assemble and test Victaulic products, as necessary, for agency testing perrespective specifications.

8.           Prepareproduct assemblies and perform demonstrations for customers touring theVictaulic facilities.

9.           Followall company safety requirements and participate in testing safety reviews.

10.        Maintainan organized clean work area and lab environment.

11.        Willingnessto travel as needed.

12.        Specificpolicies and procedures have been established by the Engineering Department toprovide for the security and accessibility of electronic data and confidentialinformation. It is the responsibility of the employee, in the daily course ofdoing business, to follow said policies as they relate to document management(see EOG-26). The extent to which departmental research and developmentinformation is stored electronically has vastly increased, and will continue todo so. The new Federal rules pertaining to electronic discovery stipulate thatsubstantive email communications constituted "records" under theFederal Records Act. It is therefore the responsibility of each departmentalemployee to understand their role in communicating via e-mails and that alle-mails must be written/responded to ina professional manner, as outlined in EOG-26.  



Job Requirements


1.           Associateand/or technical degree.

2.           Minimumtwo (2) years industrial or lab experience.

3.           Proficientcomputer skills. General operation and use of word processing and spreadsheetoperation.

4.           Proficientin blueprint reading, shop math, and use of precision instruments.

5.           Capableof maintaining accurate records and logs.

6.           Capableof performing all required laboratory functions.

7.           Experiencein hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical basics.

8.           Capableof taking verbal and written instructions.
