Job Description

Position:       EngineeringLab Technician

Location:      Engineering Laboratory

Reports to:   Technical Lead, EngineeringLaboratory



Working in anEngineering Research and Development Laboratory with theresponsibilityof testing and evaluating components and prototypes to maintain initiative andproject timelines for new product or process introductions. This includesensuring that all standards and requirements are met during the prototypedevelopment stage. Creative input is required frequently, as prototypespecifications are often incomplete during early project development.


RESPONSIBILITIES toinclude but not limited to:

1.            As per assigned work orders, assemble and testproducts to comply with engineering specifications (hydrostatic, flex, bendingmoment, air, cycle, low temperature, heat aging, fire suppression, flow loopand any additional required tests).

2.            Inspection and/or testing of any products orcomponents from Victaulic producing facilities and vendors both foreign &domestic for defects and compliance with engineering specification and drawingsfor the following: mold & tooling approvals, and sample product approvalsduring the product development cycle.

3.            Install & setup necessary supportingequipment, components and data loggers for testing. Operate the test assemblyand instrumentation, measuring performance of products and record data asdirected.

4.            Accurately reporting and recording of test dataas outlined by department processes and engineering requirements.

5.            Inspect and recalibrate pressure, vacuum gage,precision measuring instruments, as necessary, to standards which are traceableto NIST. Maintain calibration records and logs per department process and ISOstandards.

6.            Operate lab fabrication equipment, i.e. cut-offsaw, drill press, belt sander, grinder, and other machine shop equipment, asnecessary, to prepare product and materials for product testing. (Clean andmaintain, as needed).

7.            Prepare, assemble and test Victaulic products,as necessary, for agency testing per respective specifications.

8.            Prepare product assemblies and performdemonstrations for customers touring the Victaulic facilities.

9.            Follow all company safety requirements andparticipate in testing safety reviews.

10.         Maintain an organized clean work area and labenvironment.

11.         Willingness to travel as needed.

12.         Specific policies and procedures have beenestablished by the Engineering Department to provide for the security andaccessibility of electronic data and confidential information. It is theresponsibility of the employee, in the daily course of doing business, tofollow said policies as they relate to document management (see EOG-26). Theextent to which departmental research and development information is storedelectronically has vastly increased, and will continue to do so. The newFederal rules pertaining to electronic discovery stipulate that substantiveemail communications constituted "records" under the Federal RecordsAct. It is therefore the responsibility of each departmental employee tounderstand their role in communicating via e-mails and that all e-mails must be written/respondedto in a professional manner, as outlined in EOG-26.  



Job Requirements


1.            Associate and/or technical degree.

2.            Minimum two (2) years industrial or labexperience.

3.            Proficient computer skills. General operationand use of word processing and spreadsheet operation.

4.            Proficient in blueprint reading, shop math, anduse of precision instruments.

5.            Capable of maintaining accurate records andlogs.

6.            Capable of performing all required laboratoryfunctions.

7.            Experience in hydraulics, pneumatics, andelectrical basics.

8.            Capable of taking verbal and writteninstructions.
