JOB DESCRIPTION

Position:       EngineeringLab Generalist

Location:      EngineeringLaboratory

Reportsto:   Manager –Engineering Lab, with dashed line to Supervisor – Engineering Lab

Scope:

Working in anEngineering R&D laboratory with the responsibility of testing andevaluating components or prototypes across various product groups to maintainproject timelines for new product introductions or investigations.  The work orders in the Generalist queue willinclude tasks from company’s top priority lab work queue, as well as from alllab technical teams who are experiencing fluctuations in workload beyond theircurrent capacity.  The generalist knows,understands, and performs all technician roles.

 

RESPONSIBILITIESto include but not limited to:

1.           Responsiblefor completing assigned work orders, involving supporting priorities,evaluating work orders for thoroughness, and maintaining accurate status in onlineproject management software of current workload.

2.           Assumeresponsibility for all aspects of work including quality, timeliness and finalreport results with goal to complete work with little oversight.

3.           Supportcontinuous improvement developments in the lab in accordance with LeanInitiative.

4.           Assembleand test products to comply with engineering specifications (hydrostatic, flex,bending moment, pneumatic, cycle, low temperature, heat aging, firesuppression, flow loop and any additional required tests).

5.           Inspectionand/or testing of any products or components for defects and compliance withengineering specification and drawings.

6.           Install& setup necessary supporting equipment, components and data loggers fortesting. Operate the test assembly and instrumentation, measuring performanceof products and record data as directed.

7.           Accuratelyreport and record test data as outlined by department processes and engineeringrequirements.

8.           Inspectand recalibrate equipment (ie gages, precision measuring instruments, etc) asnecessary, to standards which are traceable to NIST. Maintain calibrationrecords and logs per department process and ISO standards.

9.           Operatelab fabrication equipment, i.e. cut-off saw, drill press, belt sander, grinder,and other machine shop equipment, as necessary, to prepare product andmaterials for product testing. (Clean and maintain, as needed).

10.        Prepare,assemble and test Victaulic products, as necessary, for agency testing perrespective specifications.

11.        Prepareproduct assemblies and perform demonstrations for customers touring theVictaulic facilities.

12.        Maintaina professional, organized, clean work area and lab environment in accordancewith Lean initiative.

13.        Followall company safety requirements, procedures and participate in testing safety reviews.

14.        Willingnessto travel as needed.

15.        Specificpolicies and procedures have been established by the Engineering Department toprovide for the security and accessibility of electronic data and confidentialinformation. It is the responsibility of the employee, in the daily course ofdoing business, to follow said policies as they relate to document management(see EOG-26). The extent to which departmental research and developmentinformation is stored electronically has vastly increased, and will continue todo so. The new Federal rules pertaining to electronic discovery stipulate thatsubstantive email communications constituted "records" under theFederal Records Act. It is therefore the responsibility of each departmentalemployee to understand their role in communicating via e-mails and that alle-mails must be written/responded to ina professional manner, as outlined in EOG-26.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.           Independentand self-motivated to seek clarification and take action when work orders areunclear or issues are encountered during work in order to deliver excellentservice

2.           Desireto learn and actively seeks to build or acquire new knowledge in order toimprove and develop skills. 

3.           Willingnessto learn basic automation development platforms, such as LabView

4.           Associateand/or technical degree preferred

5.           Minimumtwo (2) years industrial or lab experience.

6.           Proficientcomputer skills. General operation and use of word processing and spreadsheetoperation.

7.           Proficientin blueprint reading, shop math, and use of precision instruments.

8.           Capableof maintaining accurate records and logs.

9.           Capableof performing all required laboratory functions.

10.        Experiencein hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical basics.

11.        Capableof taking verbal and written instructions.
